It is located on the Island of Tierrabomba, at the extreme of the Canal of Bocachica. It restricted the pass through the channel combining forces with the Battery of San José. Its construction was started in 1753.
In a very singular way, this is one of the most showy forts in Cartagena de Indias. It was also a prison for its secure location an confinement from firm land. It is a few steps from the beaches of Bocachica.
